DESCRIPTION: SHIPPING NOTE: Please note that while Jones & Horan can ship this lot in-house, the cost of shipping will be expensive so please factor that into your bidding. Hamilton, 36S, 21J, marine chronometer with lever escapement and 56-hour winding indicator, mounted in nickel-plated tub within a three-tier wooden box, lower box tier with Hamilton signature plaque, metal dial of approximately 2.4 inch diameter, KWKS (winding/setting key not present or included with this lot), fully capped lever escapement, bi-metallic compensation balance, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#1260629. The total production of the Hamilton 36 size was 970 made with all examples being produced in a single production run spanning serial numbers 1260001 to 1260970. From known examples it appears that the first 500 movements of this run were typically cased in silver for use as deck watches, while the final 470 movements of the run were as the present example in marine chronometer style within gimbaled nickeled tubs inside mahogany boxes. These pieces were sold between 1918 until at least as late as 1943.
